Add a cool look with glass icicles
Garden Notes column
Encountering the unexpected is what makes viewing a garden so entertaining. You round a corner and come upon a swath of spiracle glass flowers dancing above the greenery or a pot on the porch full of glittery coils lit up at night.
Seattle glass artist Barbara Sanderson understands this element of surprise. Her icicle collection of hand-blown glass garden sculptures look delicate but are not. Mounted on copper rods, they are perfect for poking a half dozen or so into the larger garden, decorating your water feature or filling a striking pot, as shown.
Sanderson, a dog lover and dirt gardener, studied glass blowing at the Pilchuck Glass School and continues to hone her craft at Pratt Fine Arts Center, both in the Seattle area. Read more about Sanderson and her work at www.glassgardensnw.com.
Garden Icicles are available at Roger's Gardens, 2301 San Joaquin Hills Road, Corona del Mar, 949-721-2100.
